Two things people come here for. Both are below, and they cost the same: nothing.

Ask to see the card as well. It carries the licence number and the exact gas work that engineer is signed off for — those two can differ.

What the register does and does not say

Is this person allowed to work on gas at all?	Yes — that is exactly what it is for.
Which gas appliances is this person signed off for?	Yes, on the card. Boiler ≠ cooker ≠ commercial catering.
Is the registration current today?	Yes. Cards expire; the register is the live copy.
Was the work done well?	No. That is not what a register is.
Is the price fair?	No.
